Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

This dataset, attached as a downloadable spreadsheet file below and also viewable in national overview and by province, analyzes the registered candidates contesting Afghanistan's 2010 elections for the lower house of parliament, the Wolesi Jirga.

It reflects candidate totals as of August 31, 2010; note that some candidates may have subsequently been de-listed by the Afghan Electoral Complaints Commission. "Original party affiliation" figures represent party-affiliated candidates who registered to contest the elections in May 2010; "final party affiliated" figures represent those whose party affiliations that will appear on the printed ballot, as only five parties met the Independent Election Commission's criteria to be listed alongside their candidates at the time of ballot printing.

Additionally, English-language translations of the final Wolesi Jirga candidate list for Afghanistan's 2010 parliamentary elections are on their respective province pages. The accuracy of these translations have been confirmed by Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission.
