Kabul, Sept 26 – U.S. based Democracy International, which deployed 80 international observers to this month’s parliamentary elections in Afghanistan, said on Sunday it was still too early to measure the effect of fraud but called on the country’s electoral institutions to stay committed to transparently resolving irregularities and tabulating results.

KABUL, Sept 20 - The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said today, Monday, it had 73 percent of sensitive materials, including ballot boxes, returned to IEC offices.
Four provinces--Helmand, Jowzjan, Kapisa and Kabul--have returned all materials while other, more remote, provinces such as Badakshan, Ghor and Dai Kundi have had up to half of materials returned. Provincial IEC offices are in turn forwarding results forms to the National Tally Center at IEC headquarters in Kabul.

Yesterday, Afghan voters in all 34 provinces went go to the polls to elect the 249 members of the lower house of parliament, the Wolesi Jirga. While election day has passed, the counting and tally process is expected to continue through October before final results are announced.
