IEC: Final Result To Be Delayed

KABUL, Oct 9 – The Independent Election Commission said on Saturday it had nullified part or all of the votes from 442 polling centers, and has ordered audits and recounts of 828 more. It has also referred 29 more candidates to the Electoral Complaints Commission for alleged fraud, bringing to 171 the number of candidates referred to the ECC.

On October 5 it said (pdf) it had nullified the votes of 227 polling centers and ordered recounts 339.

The IEC said it approved and announced the partial results for Kabul, Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, Parwan, Kapisa, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Paktia, Helmand, Paktika, Zabul, Urzghan, Bamyan, Daikundi, Balkh, Kundoz, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Faryab, Juzjan, Sar-i-Pul, Khost, Samangan, Herat, Ghor, Badghis, Farah and Nimroz provinces, and the preliminary results for Panjshir province.

TOLO News quoted the IEC as saying it would delay announcement of the final result. On October 5 the IEC had said it would postpone announcement of the preliminary results—before the ECC adjudication—from October 9 to October 17.
